Displaying a MiG-19 on top of a concrete plinth, the monument is dedicated to the pilots of the Soviet 17th Air Army, who participated in the 1943-45 Ostrogozhsk–Rossosh offensive and helped recapture Tiraspol from Axis forces. The monument was erected in 1975 to mark the 30th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War (World War II).
