During the Great Patriotic War (World War II), Tiraspol was recaptured from Axis forces on 12th April 1944. To mark the 40th anniversary of the occasion, the city was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree (centre, 1985). The Tiraspol Awards Monument also features the Order of Red Banner of Labour (top, 1970) and the Order of the Republic (bottom, 2002).
