The sgraffito above the entrance is entitled “September” after the 1923 September Uprising, a military rebellion in which the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP) attempted, but failed, to oust Bulgaria’s existing government and seize control for themselves. The insurrection began in the village of Maglizh on 14th September 1923.
