The Monument to the Unknown Soldier was damaged during the Abkhazia-Georgia conflict that lasted from August 1992 until September 1993. It was restored in 1995. At the opposite end of the boulevard is another memorial entitled ‘To the Military of the Armed Forces of Russia. Peacekeeping Mission in Abkhazia’.
