Last night we went to Mark’s boss Sanjay and his wife Barssa’s house for dinner.  It was a lovely evening and great to have home-cooked food rather than restaurant food for once.  Today we went for a walk to Durbar Square (main square and part of the ancient centre).  The streets around central Kathmandu never fail to amaze me – they are narrow and always bursting to the seams with people, shops spilling out on to what little pavement there is, motor bikes, bicycles and rickshaws.  They are also filled with small temples and shrines with people stopping by and popping in for a quick worship on route to the shops.  Tomorrow Mark heads off for his first trek – in the Annapurna region – so he spent today preparing for departure as he is getting picked up at 7am.  As he may have to live off rice, dhal and vegetable curry for the next couple of weeks he got to choose dinner and opted for hamburger and fries!
