Hotel Goričina I

Location: Kupari, Croatia

Completed: 1962

Architect: David Finci

Genre: Modernist, Socialist architecture, former Yugoslavia

Kupari’s Župa Bay developed as a beach resort in the interwar years and was expanded as a holiday destination during the 1960s through to the 1980s by the Yugoslav People’s Army. At its height, the resort’s hotels could accommodate in the region of 2,000 guests, while the surrounding campsite would accommodate double that again. Its abandonment is connected to the Croatian War of Independence (part of the Yugoslav Wars) which took place between March 1991 and November 1995.
