Čolina Kapa Astronomical Observatory

Location: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Constructed: 1969-1972

Alternative name: Bistrik Tower)

Architect: Not known

Genre: Abandoned, former Yugoslavia

Because of the uninterrupted view of the city, the original use of the location was as a fortification for the Austro-Hungarian military but several years after World War II, in 1967, the site was given over to the University Astronomical Society and converted into an astronomical observatory. Like many structures in and around Sarajevo, it was destroyed during the Bosnian War (April 1992-December 1995) and has remained abandoned ever since.
