Whilst Kirsty was heading off to war-torn Kashmir (silly girl) I went on my second trek with the ‘old boy’. I am sure you must be ‘trek blogged’ out after so many Nepalese ones so I am just going to list some highs and lows, accompanied by a few pics. All in all this was another great trek with plenty of good views and a great trekking partner!

I have now officially retired from trekking.

Lowlights

  • Getting a fever and having to go back to Leh mid trek for a day of recovery
  • Walking for 6 hours through a freezing cold river bed and jumping from one slippery rock to another
  • Falling over my boot laces in the middle of the night and smacking my head on the toilet door and smashing my already damaged hip firmly on the ground
  • The toilets (as always) although they probably weren’t as bad as some
  • Dhal, vegetables and rice or rice, dhal and vegetables for every meal
  • Dads horrible trekking bars (they tasted like sawdust)
  • Home stays – for the best part they were cold, dusty and very basic
  • Being told (at the end of a very long day and feeling very sick) that we only had to walk another 15 minutes which in fact ended up being 1 hour and 45 minutes

Highlights

  • The rest day Leh as a result of me being sick
  • Excellent coffee at the German Bakery in Leh
  • Dad falling over in the river bed
  • Dad falling over and landing in a pile of horse crap (this was funnier than the river fall)
  • Crossing three 5000m passes *
  • The views – Ladakh has some stunning scenery
  • The trusted jar of marmite
  • The bag of Haribos (which managed to make last for the whole trek)
  • Crossing the Zanskar river on the gondola suspended from a zip wire.
  • The Steripen (once we worked out how to use it)
  • Find a trekking in Ladakh t-shirt for day. It made his day no end (as did the certificate that the guy in the trekking agency made for him!)

* in fact they were just under the 5000m mark but were still buggers to cross
