One thing that made Tangier’s medina stand out from all the other labyrinthine old towns in Morocco was its highly colourful street art.

Whilst we’d seen a few murals here and there in other towns, nowhere else (with the possible exception of Asilah) did we see such a huge amount in such a condensed area.

We stumbled upon it by chance as we attempted to find our way from our riad to the kasbah. Truth be told, we were both starving hungry (read: grumpy) and weren’t really paying attention to the direction we were going in. We found ourselves in a small area of the old town where almost every wall was painted in bright colours with traditional North African scenes.

Once we’d got our bearings in Tangier, we found out this area wasn’t too far from the kasbah and other main points of interest.

If you are hunting for street art in Tangier, it should be easy to find but, just in case, here are the GPS coordinates to help you locate it: 35°47′15.53″N 05°48′47.72″W

Much of the artwork was hard to capture as it is painted in rather dark alleyways, but here are a few of our favourites…
