Air Force Command Building

Location: Belgrade, Serbia

Completed: 1935

Architect: Dragiša Brašovan

Genre: Modernist, former Yugoslavia

The Air Force Command building is considered one of the most important works of Modernist architecture in the former Yugoslavia. The building was targeted by NATO as part of its 1999 bombing of Belgrade with two missiles causing significant damage to the central section of the structure as well as causing the collapse of its right and left wings. Work on reconstructing the damaged parts of the building based on the original design was carried out from 2000 to 2001. Parts of the Air Force Command building are still occupied by the Serbian Armed Forces, but the edifice shown in the photo has remained unused since the time of the bombing.
